Kegels in Motion - Go Beyond the Squeeze

KEGELS - This word almost always comes up when people are wanting to strengthen their pelvic floors and get rid of symptoms like pelvic pain, heaviness, or leaking “down there”. But many people aren’t seeing the results they expect despite all their efforts. That’s because in order to effectively strengthen your pelvic floor, you have to do more than just SQUEEZE! Welcome to my Kegels in Motion Series where we’ll be going beyond the squeeze. Real life is in motion and your kegel training needs to be as well.

When I’m helping my patients strengthen their pelvic floors, there is a 3 step process we follow: 

  1. We have to retrain the brain and pelvic floor muscles to coordinate together with breath work and lower abdominal activation in different stationary positions. This is THE FOUNDATION that we then take into movement.

  2. We pair this foundational training with body weight movements.

  3. We progress to doing these movements with weight. And I’m not talking 2 lbs. dumbbells, I’m talking real word weight that’s equivalent to a bag of groceries, a toddler, or a carseat.
